Sunset Hill Farm County Park: Meet the Animals

General Overview: To honor Sunset Hill Farm’s legacy as a working farm; Porter County Parks offers the public a chance to visit and interact with animals commonly used in agriculture. Currently we have a variety of chickens, ducks, rabbits, goats and sheep. The animals are on display during regular park hours and are free to visit year-round. Our educational farm is licensed with the US Department of Agriculture and undergoes regular inspections ensuring compliance and proper animal welfare. There is absolutely no feeding of outside food permitted by the general public. Our animals are on controlled diets and feeding unapproved foods can lead to illness, obesity and other health issues, including death. The sheep and goats may be pet through the fence. In 2025 we added a tractor playground for children to enjoy while visiting the animals.

Rules:

1.)    Do not feed any of the animals unless accompanied by a staff member.

2.)    All dogs must be on a leash and must not harass any of the animals.

3.)    Members of the public are not permitted behind any fences or in any of the animal barns.

4.)    Please report any concerns to Porter County Parks at 219-465-3586.

Farm to Library: During the cold winter months, we bring the farm inside! Through a partnership with Porter County Library System, we bring our small farm animals to various library branches and host an informational chat about our animals followed by a chance to pet and interact with our animals. Check back soon for 2026 library dates, times and locations.

Location: The animal exhibit is located east of the main parking lot at Sunset Hill Farm County Park. Follow the gravel paths from the parking lot, around the red barn and it will lead you to the animal pens.
